Rice, avocado, real crab meat, cucumber, and carrot — assembled separately on a plate, it all sounds pretty straightforward and Spartan as far as eats are concerned, right?

But imagine having to roll those same ingredients up in a sheet of nori with a dab of wasabi and soy sauce alongside it and a bad case of sweaty palms sets in. Take the mystery out of sushi assembly.

Little known fact: The word “sushi” refers only to the seasoned rice and has absolutely nothing to do with fish.

Tonight you’ll learn not only how to make and season that all important rice, but also how to make those lovely, delicious rolls that wrap the rice and nori (roasted seaweed sheets) around an assortment of different fillings and garnishes to include sashimi grade tuna and salmon, shrimp, crab, prosciutto, pancetta, salami, capicola, smoked salmon, olives, basil, mozzarella, avocado, carrots, fresh fruit, cucumber. flying fish roe, sesame seeds, rice crackers, different sauces ~ and more!

** Please note that Chef Apple’s cancellation policy is really simple if you cancel or don’t show for the class you lose your spot. There are no make-ups due to the time constraints of Chef Apple; and with her traveling schedule it will be impossible for her honor any make-up classes. There is also a 15 person minimum attendance for the sushi class (that means that there is a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 50.) You will be notified 24 hours in advance of the class attendance by email and whether the class will be rescheduled due to low attendance.

  • I purchased a class for IAmChefApple, sushi rolling class in Baltimore. I must say, I was not a huge of fan of Chef Apple, before I met her. She is extremely curt, and abrasive via email, but, if you can make it through that, you will have an amazing time in her class, she’s funny and extremely knowledgeable about food and ingredients. After I worked through my dislike for her the class was a blast. She asked us if we wanted to join her and roll a few maki. I was a bit intimidated but, her laugh and smile puts you at ease and her ribbing makes you forget that you are making a complete fool of yourself in front of others.
